CMS ANNOUNCES MATH FIELD DAY PARTICIPANTS

(02/22/2006)
Students in grades four through eight were recently selected to compete in the Calhoun County Math Field Day. The nominations were narrowed to ten students per grade level through placement tests and-or class rankings in the math classes. Students then moved on to the next level of testing to choose the top three winners and two alternates.

After completing a rigorous, timed written test, the top three winners in each grade, along with previously determined high school teams, were chosen to represent Calhoun County Schools at the Regional Math Field Day for RESA V on March 13th at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

Fourth and fifth place winners will serve as alternates. There will be seven other counties from RESA V competing that day. Good luck, Calhoun County winners!

The State Mathematics Field Day will be held April 29, 2006, at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.

The state competition is for students in grades 4-12, with schools in each of the eight Regional Educational Service Areas (RESA) sending the three highest scoring students to represent their region in each grade level 4-9 and the ten top scoring students for grades 10-12 competition.
