COURT FEES RISE TO $110.25 - Designed To Help Regional Jail Bills

(07/05/2001)
Starting July 13, if you get cited or arrested in West Virginia you will be paying some increased fees for your mistakes. The $67 court costs will jump to $110.25, an increase of $43.25.

The fee was supposedly increased to help counties pay their regional jail bills, but a local estimate said the increased revenue to Calhoun or other rural counties is negligible. The big winners appear to be more populated counties.

The costs will be collected for the so-called "bad guys pay" bill by local magistrates courts.

The charges will be added to littering, speeding tickets and other smaller offenses, in addition to more serious crimes.
