THE BURROWS COUPLE - Their Passing Creates An Emptiness

(02/10/2006)
Coleman and Katheryn Burrows were always a couple, doing things together, more often than not giving of themselves to the Calhoun community, quietly.

Their deaths together, not just a tragic loss to their family and friends, creates a real emptiness in this small piece of the world.

Returning to Calhoun in 1986, they never slowed down. They were among the givers and doers that seem to be quickly evaporating from our landscape.

Last year Coleman drove 10,362 miles driving county veterans to the VA hospital, said long-time VFW member Paul Whytsell.

"They were exceptional people. We need a lot more just like them," said former pastor Larry Jones.

Coleman served on the board of directors of Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center for eight years, several years as vice-president, and was active with Pleasant Hill Church.

Katheryn was busy with her church work at Pleasant Hill and was recently recognized for her service to the Pleasant Hill CEOS. As a 27-year cancer survivor, she donated hundreds of hours to cancer awareness and was the Calhoun Belle in 2004.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Reverends Rick Metheney and John Glesner will officiate. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Grantsville.

Visitation will be held today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
