Christina Miller Joins Samaritan's Purse Team Taking Gifts to Caribbean Children.

Spencer, WV February 4, 2006

Christina Miller is headed to Jamaica, but not for a tropical vacation. Her luggage is almost packed and ready to go help deliver shoe boxes to children living in some of the poorest communities on the Caribbean island.

Miller will travel to Jamaica in February as part of a special distribution team with Operation Christmas Child. The team of staff and volunteers, along with Jamaican church leaders, has been invited by Jamaica's Ministry of Education to hand out Operation Christmas Child shoe box gifts in ghettos around the capital city of Kingston. Distributions are scheduled for Feb. 14-16.

Operation Christmas Child—the world's largest Christmas project—is part of Samaritan's Purse, the international Christian relief organization headed by Franklin Graham. Children, families, churches, and groups in the U.S. and 10 other countries pack shoe boxes with small gifts, school supplies, personal items, and candy. Gifts collected during the 2005 Christmas season are being delivered to more than 7.6 million children in 90 countries worldwide, including 58,000 in Jamaica.

In the U.S., the project is made possible by more than 90,000 volunteers. Miller serves as Area Coordinator for Charleston, WV volunteer leadership team for Operation Christmas Child. She became involved in the project by packing shoe boxes with her family 9 years ago. As Area Coordinator, she oversees the collection and promotional efforts of volunteers in the Charleston WV area and also Jackson, Roane and Calhoun Counties "I love the way Operation Christmas Child brings joy to children in such simple, yet effective manner," Miller said. "This trip will give us an opportunity to demonstrate God's love and see what a difference these simple gifts really do make.
