Linda Sampson said it was a day of mixed emotions, retiring from her 27-year job in Calhoun County government. The long-time tax deputy was tearful after a room full of her associates and friends took time to share lunch and present her with parting gifts.

Sheriff Carl Ballengee said "I know it's customary to say we're going to miss people when they retire, but trust me, we're really going to miss Linda."

Commission President Larry McCallister said years have come and gone when he was in Grantsville after dark, to see the night lights burning in the Sheriff's office.

"Linda worked until the job got done, long after closing hours," said Ballengee. "What dedication to her job and to the people of Calhoun," he said.

She was presented a special plaque by Sheriff Ballengee in recognition of her service, and then he presented a computer, printer and other gifts, purchased by her fellow employees and friends.

"I don't make very good speeches," she said, "but thank you from the bottom of my heart."
