DAY CARE CAMP GIVES PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE

(01/31/2006)

The Parenting and Child Development Class at Calhoun High School held a Day Care Camp on January 12.

The children that participated ranged in age from five months to 5 five years old. Children attending were Donald Smith, 5-year-old son of Jim and Denise Smith of Grantsville; Dante' Jones, 2-year-old son of Alicia Jones and Charles Flinn of Leading Creek Road; Austin McConnell, 2-year-old son of Cindy Hart and Shirley Rush of Millstone and Dalton Metz, 5-month-old son of Krystal Jones and Charles Metz of Leading Creek Road.

The parents, children and Parenting Class met in the commons area at CM-HS. After a welcome from Mrs. Bev Morford, each child had their own automobile that provided transportation to scheduled events.

The activities for the afternoon were held in the gym. This event was organized by Jessica Villers, Heather Cottrill, Juston Ferrell, and Christi White. Quickly, the children loaded into their vehicles and traveled to the life skills room where the remainder of the activities occurred.

They participated in letter match, picture match, and making numbers and shapes in chocolate cool whip.

Eva Richards, Kendra Curry, Samantha Fittro, and Ashley Starcher planned the activities. The children built snowmen from marshmallows and M&M candies. Each child had hand and feet prints made with paint, and spent time coloring and drawing.

Students planning the arts and crafts activities were Jessica Browning, Cindy Hart, Tiffany Richards, and Vicy Marks.

Jello Teddy Grams (crackers), and apple juice were served. Hosts were Sierra Dawson, Ashley Miller, Brittany Jones, Michelle Knicley, and Ja'Dale Mundell.

The children relaxed on cots and everyone settled down to listen to a story read by Brandi Cottrill. Caitlin Weaver and Christa Kight selected the reading for the day.

Before leaving, the 2 and 5 year olds were given a reading book to take home.

The class expresses their thanks to the parents for allowing the opportunity to understand the organization that takes place when running a day care center.
