CORRECTIONAL OFFICER SHOT - A Maryland correctional officer who is from West Virginia was critically wounded when a hospitalized inmate got his gun.

He was shot in the face.

Authorities say they don't believe Officer Jeffery Wroten violated any policies while guarding Brandon Morris at Maryland's Washington County Hospital.

Wroten is a 44-year-old resident of Martinsburg.

After the 20-year-old inmate shot the officer, he used the officer's gun to force a cabbie to drive him on a chase that ended with his arrest.

Morris had been serving an eight-year sentence for assault, robbery and handgun convictions at the nearby, medium-security Roxbury Correctional Institution.

Wroten's condition is described as critical.

MORGANTOWN WOMAN BURIED IN SHALLOW GRAVE - A second suspect has been charged in the death of a woman whose body was found buried in a shallow grave in Morgantown.

Police have obtained a warrant charging 27-year-old Hason K. Cleveland with felony murder. He remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Twenty-three-year-old Danielle Hilling was arrested earlier this week and charged with first-degree murder. She is in North Central Regional Jail.

Authorities located the body Tuesday in the Chaplane Hill area after receiving a tip.

The victim's name has yet to be been released.

TWO ST. ALBANS MEN SHOT - Kanawha County deputies were searching for a suspect wanted in connection with shooting two men near St. Albans.

Deputies are looking for Brashan Mandela Beverly, 18, of Charleston, and will charge him with two counts each of attempted murder and malicious wounding in connection with the Thursday night incident.

Beverly's brother, Brenya Beverly, 20, was arrested Thursday night in Charleston on charges he sold a controlled substance.

Robert J. Thompson, 27, and James R. Hensley, 54, both of the St. Albans area, were seriously injured and taken to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital.

Thompson and Hensley were shot several times while sitting in a vehicle in the Riverside Drive area of Amandaville, west of St. Albans.

Deputies believe Beverly shot the two men with a pistol.

After they were shot, Thompson and Hensley drove to a St. Albans Go-Mart convenience store and called for help.

OHIO MAN ARRESTED IN OMAR - State troopers arrested a Columbus, Ohio, man yesterday on malicious wounding charges.

Leo Buggs, 26, was taken into custody without incident.

The State Police's Special Response Team surrounded the house before arresting Buggs, who was wanted on three felony warrants.
