A Mount Zion man was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly choked his mother and pointed a gun at her, according to the West Virginia State Police.

Cpl. Doug Starcher charged 26-year-old Larry S. Wilmoth with domestic battery and brandishing a deadly weapon.

Wilmoth was arraigned before Magistrate Rick Postalwait and released on $5,000 bond.

State Police said a dispute was in progress when they arrived at the residence of Patty Wilmoth, the subject's mother, after which three individuals told the officer they had been threatened by the man, who was reportedly armed with a Jennings 9mm pistol.

Officers said Wilmoth was in a basement bedroom of the house when they arrived, but exited when they requested he present himself.

Police then entered the room and found the weapon on a bed. They said there was damage to the residence and Wilmoth had several bruises and cuts.

They obtained statements from Wilmoth's mother, brother and his girlfriend.
