Dale Ritchie, 87 - Big Springs

Dale Ritchie, 87, of Big Springs, West Virginia, passed away December 26, 2005 at his home.

He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late William and Leah Wilson Ritchie. He was a US Army Veteran, having served during WWII with the 42nd Rainbow Division; 222 Infantry Company C.

He was a member of Prosperity Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He retired from Johns Mansville in 1978. He was well known in the area for his gospel singing, having sung bass for many years with the Ritchie Quartet.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Ritchie, three sons, Mike and Teresa Ritchie, and Calvin and Betty Ritchie of Big Springs, and Douglas and Linza Ritchie of Smithville; two daughters, Connie Shaffer of Ripley and Roberta (Jane) Friedman of Alum Bridge; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by five brothers, Grover, Paul, Carl, Jim and Glen Ritchie; three sisters, Glada Harris, Edith Whipkey and Edythe Ferrell, one grandchild and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, December 29 at the Prosperity Baptist Church at Big Springs. Rev. Keith Heiney will officiate. Interment will be in the Saunders Cemetery.

Friends may call at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
