SUSPICIOUS EXPLOSION AND FIRE DESTROYS CABIN RIDGE STRUCTURE

(12/21/2005)

An explosion and resulting fire was deemed
"suspicious in nature" on Cabin Ridge

A fire and explosion of suspicious origin destroyed an out building in a remote area of Cabin Ridge a short distance from Daniels Run shortly after 10 a.m. today.

The explosion was heard several miles away.

Arnoldsburg fireman Fred Waybright said the explosion ignited grass around the structure, which was put out by firemen.

Waybright said there was no gas or electric to the building, saying there was no one present when firemen arrived.

State Police from the Grantsville detachment are investigating and the State Fire Marshall has been called to the scene.

The site of the fire is adjacent to a residence which burned to the ground several years ago, reportedly under suspicious circumstances.

The owners of the property live out of the area.

The backwoods Cabin Ridge area between Arnoldsburg and the right fork of Daniel's Run is often frequented by ATV enthusiasts and is accessed by steep, primitive roads on either end.
