Damage was confined to living room area of mobile home

A 70-year-old wheelchair-bound Beech Road woman was rescued from her burning mobile home this morning after a stovepipe ignited the structure.

She escaped serious injury, and was taken next door to her son's residence where she was examined by Calhoun EMS. She was not taken to the hospital.

Dorothy Rogers was alone in the dwelling when smoke started pouring from a raised-roof section of the trailer over the living room area.

Rather than calling 911 direct, the elderly woman called a relative who was at work in Spencer, slowing the response.

Neighbors Doug Houchin and his son Jeremy and Mike King removed the woman after hearing a 911 call that the woman was in the burning structure.

"The fire was really ready to take off when we arrived," said Arnoldsburg Fire Chief Joe Tanner. "The damage was confined to the living room." The AVFD responded very quickly to the scene.

The dwelling is located about one mile from Liberty Hill on Beech Rd., just off US 33-119.

Neighbors said Rogers' husband is in a nursing room.
