BOAK INFANT IN MORGANTOWN ICU

(12/14/2005)
Kamryn Elaine Boak, the one-week-old daughter of Kevin and Amber Arthur Boak, has a hypo-plastic heart. She had her first surgery December 12 and is doing very well.

The next 48 to 72 hours are critical, according to her mother, Amber.

The doctors are impressed with how well she did, saying that infants with such a condition have to be sent back from surgery on a heart and lung machine, which does the work for heart and lungs. She did not require the assistance.

They report after she wakes up they will start a paralyzing medication which will be used for about a week. Her chest was left open because of swelling which is normal and they will close it in about 48 hours, give or take.

During this critical time, the family requests prayer.

This is just the first surgery Kamryn will receive. There are at least two more. The second will be at approximately 6 to 12 months of age and the third will be at about 3 to 4 years of age.

Family members say she is in very good hands at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
