CALHOUN RANKED 4TH IN WRESTLING POLL - Red Devils Travel To Pt. Pleasant Saturday

A sweep of five matches at the Ritchie Duals this past weekend solidified Calhoun County's hold on fourth place in the latest Class AA/A poll released by West Virginia Mat (www.wvmat.com ).

The Red Devils will have their mettle tested this weekend, however, when they compete in the Point Pleasant Pool Tournament, which is hosted by the second-ranked Big Blacks.

Veteran Calhoun wrestling coach Mike Stump has some tremendous wrestlers back this season and one - Paul Goodrich - is coming off a state championship in which he finished 43-0.

Other returning veterans include Jaron Sampson, Seth Jarvis, Eddie Burrows, Justin Ramsey, Jeff Goodrich, Zac Yeager, Caleb Hart and Justin Whipkey.

But there are also some very young wrestlers including freshmen Nick Stevens, Chris Mace, Sean Gungle and Allen Carpenter.

Other wrestlers include Tyler Bain, Will Abicht, Brandon Sampson and Derek Roberts.

In the sweep at Ritchie County Paul Goodrich and Jaron Sampson both went 5-0.

Stevens, Jarvis, Gungle, Burrows, Ramsey, Jeff Goodrich and Whipkey were 4-1 while Brandon Sampson, Hart, Yeager, Bain and Carpenter with 3-2. Calhoun beat Parkersburg South B 39-33, Grafton 42-31, Saint Marys 49-27, Wirt 70-9 and Reserves (a composite team) 71-10. --
