NEPTUNE USES PLEA AGREEMENT IN WIRT MURDER CASE

(12/06/2005)
A Wirt County man who admitted to stealing and selling a gun that was allegedly used to kill two county residents, pleaded guilty to one count of grand larceny yesterday.

Daniel Neptune, 21, will testify against accused murderer Roger Dean Flinn, 43, of Elizabeth.

Flinn allegedly shot and killed Russell Ray Eastham and Sylvia L. Fittro in their Wirt County home last April 1. (See earlier Herald stories)

Neptune had already testified that he and Flinn, who is identified as his uncle, were out drinking the night before the bodies were found. Neptune said he sold Flinn a handgun for $50.

Court reports say Neptune and Joel Adam Robinson, 21, of Elizabeth, broke into a hunting cabin and stole more than $1,000 worth of items, including a semiautomatic .380 handgun and ammo.

Statements said the two men went to the home of Eastham and Fittro between Palestine and the Roane County line on Rt. 14, looking for beer.

Flinn forced his way into the residence and shot Eastham and then went through the dwelling, kicking down doors looking for Fittro. He then shot her, leaving her 10-month-old son, nearby.

A motorist spotted Eastham's body in a ditch, notifying authorities.

Joel Adam Robinson's case was continued. His attorney, John Oshoway, said they needed more time to confer over a plea agreement.

Neptune and Robinson are free on bond.
