CHALLENGE ISSUED TO WAYNE UNDERWOOD MUSEUM CONTRIBUTERS - A Little More Help Is Needed

(12/13/2005)
Construction of the Wayne Underwood Museum and Box Seats at the Calhoun High athletic complex is underway, according to Connie Roberts.

"We have received a challenge from former CHS coach Don Weaver, who has issued a challenge," said Roberts.

Weaver said "I am challenging all former contributors to match their original contribution. If most do this we will more than move over the top of what is needed for a facility worthy of a museum for Coach Underwood."

Roberts said the committee is grateful to those who have contributed $20,213. "The committee is excited about the progress and that construction has started," but additional funds are needed.

"We hope that some donors will take up coach Weaver's challenge," she said.

Loyd "Sonny" Wright, who has taken up the cause since the death of "Ox" Johnson, says "If you feel passionate about creating a memorial that will instill pride in our youth and in creating a means to help raise money for their programs,we'd like to hear from you now."

Wright says the project is moving close to being funded.
