EASTERN STAR SUPPORTS CIVIC CAUSES - Dawn Fox Slated For State's Worthy Grand Matron

The Grantsville Chapter #73, Order of the Eastern Star, had their regular monthly meeting with an initiation.

Nicole Gainer, daughter of Pam and Roscoe Gainer II and granddaughter of Paula and Denver Roberts and the late Roscoe Gainer, was initiated into the order.

Guests for the evening included Betty Dawn and Bruce Hardman of Belpre, Ohio. Betty Dawn is a Past Grand Matron of Ohio and her husband, Bruce is from Grantsville.

Betty Dawn Hardman gave a special greeting during the meeting and spoke kindly of Grantsville and how Denver Roberts had helped Bruce, her husband when he began working.

Guests from Spencer included Renee Allen, Grand Marshal of the Grand Chapter of West Virginia, her parents Ruth and Frank Allen and Ruth Bradley.

Festive Fall decorations and refreshments were enjoyed after the meeting, furnished by Paula Roberts and Pam Gainer.

The officers for 2005-2006 include Dawn Fox, Worthy Matron; Tom Fox, Worthy Patron; Jackie Robinson, Associate Matron; Von Yoak, Associate Patron; Evelyn Yoak, Secretary; Delma Kemper, Treasurer; Paula Roberts, Conductress; Sue Arthur, Associate Conductress; Denver Roberts, Chaplain; Barbara Bush, Marshal; Pat Radabaugh, Organist; Colleen Sullivan, Adah; Imogene Hoskins, Ruth; Teresa Robinson, Esther; Freda Yoak, Martha; Barbara Lay, Electa; Marsha Swisher, Warder and Loretta Stevens, Sentinel.

Dawn Fox, Associate Grand Conductress of the Grand Chapter of WV

Dawn Fox was elected as Associate Grand Conductress of the Grand Chapter of West Virginia at the Grand Chapter Session which was held in Charleston in October.

In four years she will be the Worthy Grand Matron of West Virginia.

Grantsville Chapter has had only one other Worthy Grand Matron in its history, Lelah K. Ball.

In 2003-2004, Dawn was an appointed officer, Grand Martha, for the Grand Chapter of WV. Previous appointed officers from Grantsville Chapter were Delma Kemper as Grand Ruth and Paula Roberts as Grand Electa. Denver Roberts is a Past Grand Patron of West Virginia.

The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization of both men and women in the world.

Started in the mid 1800s, today there are over two and a half million members worldwide, with approximately 17,000 members in the State of West Virginia. The organization reflects the spirit of fraternal love and the desire to work for the betterment of mankind.

Eastern Star world wide donates millions of dollars annually to various charitable organizations. The Eastern Star also supports youth groups such as Rainbow for Girls, Job's Daughters, and the Order of the DeMolay.

Along with youth scholarships, donations are made to Heart, Cancer, Diabetes, Knight's Templar Eye Foundation, Shriners Transportation Fund, and other charities.

Grantsville Chapter also gives a scholarship yearly to a Calhoun senior. To support charities, the lodge uses fund raising projects and donations.
