A look inside old Charley's blacksmith shop

Jim Bell explains workings of horseshoe making to Vandalia's Dusty Hibbs

By Bob Weaver 2005

Yesterday was an early look at Charley Starcher's Blacksmith Shop, recently moved to the Heritage Village at Calhoun Park. Jim Bell took Vandalia Heritage member Dusty Hibbs on a tour of the structure and contents.

The building and blacksmith tools were donated by Lewis and Dottie Slider of Hur. "Others are donating tools and artifacts that fit in the shop," said Bell, "but most of the stuff belonged to old Charley."

Bell said the shop represents "the real thing" from a time and place long gone in Calhoun.
