CHEER'EM ON! SECOND TIME IN CHS HISTORY! - Red Devils Will Acknowledge Fans Saturday Morning

(11/11/2005)
Calhoun Coaches Mike Stump and Tim Moore recognized their football teams before an assembly of CM-HS students yesterday morning, praising their accomplishments.

Calhoun Middle won their championship game and Calhoun High will be on the road to the play-offs in Elkins Saturday to play Tygarts Valley at 1:30 p.m. in round one at Elkins High School.

Principal Mike Offutt told the students this is only the second time in school history the football team has gone to the playoffs, the last time being in 1983. He introduced some players and coaches from '83.

"I hope Calhoun folks will hit the road Saturday to Elkins. It is really a big event for our school," said Offutt.

Tickets at the gate are $6.

CHS fan buses will depart the school at 10 a.m., but the team will be leaving at 8:30 a.m. to drive down Rt. 16 north to Grantsville and up Route 5.

Booster Kelley Houchin said the bus will drive slow to acknowledge those who come to the road with signs and cheers to wish the team well.

The athletic boosters are asking supporters to place signs and balloons in their yards.

The Athletic Boosters are asking fans living along the route to show their school spirit by placing signs or balloons in their yards.

Boosters are also asking everyone to show their Red Devil spirit by wearing Red and white to the game Saturday.

Do's & Don'ts: The West Virginia Secondary Schools Activity Commission has very strict rules on what fans may and may not do or have at playoff games. You may have balloons, hand-held signs, noise makers (horns, cow bells, bells, buzzers, clickers, etc.), paper banners for the team to run through and pom poms (shakers, spirit towels); you may NOT have banners on stadium walls, confetti/paper debris, laser pointers, miniature sports balls, air horns or cannons and muskets.

Directions: Take interstate 79 to the Buckhannon exit 99. Go east on 33/119 to Elkins. In Elkins take a right at the McDonalds and cross the Tygart River. Take a left at the first stop light. The football field is at the old Elkins High School.
