The Calhoun Middle School Red Devils are 2005 Champions of the Central West Virginia Athletic Conference.

The Western Division Champion Red Devils captured the school's first CWVAC football championship since joining the conference in 2000, winning in convincing fashion 28-12 over Eastern Division Champion, Braxton Middle.

Calhoun jumped out to a 22-0 lead and was never seriously challenged on a beautiful Autumn afternoon at Red Devil Stadium at Mt. Zion. The Red Devils scored on their first possession driving the ball downfield on the running of Brandon Reed, the big play being a 44 yard Reed run; quarterback Zach Moore scored from the one yard line. The try for extra point failed and Calhoun led 6-0.

It was a great football day

After a fumble recovery by Calhoun's Tim Sutro at the Braxton 47 yard line, the Red Devils needed only three plays to hit pay-dirt again, with Zach Moore covering the last 33 yards on a broken play down the left sideline. The two-point conversion was good on a pass in the back of the end zone to tight end, Jacob Haught for a 14-0 Red Devil lead.

Braxton went three and out after the kickoff and Calhoun took over at its own 45 yard line where the Knight punt rolled dead. Brandon Reed then ran the ball on six of the next seven plays, catching a first down pass on the seventh.

After being penalized for an illegal block on a run by Zach Moore, the Red Devils faced a 3rd and 18 at the Knight's 43 yard line. Quarterback Zach Moore then lofted a pass downfield to Jacob Haught behind the Braxton defenders for a 43 yard touchdown. Moore ran the ball in for the two-point conversion and a 22-0 Red Devil lead.

Braxton would finally get on the board late in the 2nd Quarter on a 58 yard pass play when the Knight receiver out jumped Calhoun's defensive back and scampered into the end zone. The extra point attempt was no good and the lead was 22-6, the score at the end of the 1st half.

Calhoun kicked off to the Knights to open the 2nd half, but the Knights gave up the ball on downs to the Red Devils at the 47 yard line. Zach Moore ran 22 yard on the first play to the Knight's 25 yard line.

The Red Devils moved the ball on the ground with Reed carrying the final four yards for the score and a 28-6 Calhoun lead; the extra point attempt was no good, and for all intents and purposes the game was over.

Braxton got a 4th quarter score on a 4th down pass from the Red Devil nine yard line to cut the lead to 28-12, but would come no closer.

Brandon Reed gained 163 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown; Zach Moore was 3-3 passing with one touchdown to Jacob Haught, and scored two rushing touchdowns.

Cody Clark lead the defense with 10 tackles, Tim Sutro recovered a fumble, Quentin Kerby had a sack, and Zach Moore picked off a pass for a swarming Calhoun defense.

Zach Moore, Jacob Haught, Aaron Yoak, and Tim Sutro were named to the All Conference Team; Nikki Whytsell and Trenda Overbay were named All Conference Cheerleaders.
