Ernest Ralph Cunningham, 86, of Coolville, Ohio, passed away Oct. 27, 2005, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 12, 1919, in Cremo, W.Va., Calhoun County, a son of the late Albert Curtis and Sophia Jane Greathouse Cunningham. He was retired from Pipefitters Union Local 168 of Marietta, with more than 50 years of service as a welder. Ernest enjoyed playing the banjo since he was a child and handcrafted banjos and banjo cases.

He is survived by a son, Larry Cunningham and his wife, Patty, of Coolville; two daughters, Betty Lewis of Devola, Ohio, and Kathy McAlarney and her husband, Gene, of Whipple, Ohio; a sister, Dolly Schrader of Parkersburg; four granddaughters; three grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margarett Lowe Cunningham on Feb. 14, 2001; three sisters; and four brothers.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tatman Funeral Home, 220 Main St., Belpre, with the Rev. Wilbur Lowe officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wright Cemetery Calhoun County, W.Va. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
