FLOOD MITIGATION WILL REMOVE THREE GRANTSVILLE HOUSES

(10/28/2005)

Three pieces of frequently flooded south Grantsville property will be demolished using an $85,500 Disaster Recovery Initiative grant, according to Mayor Wilbert Kerby.

Kerby said the properties belong to Gary May of Arnoldsburg, and had been requested through the flood mitigation program.

He said the town hopes to get the demolition of the houses completed in short order.

All have received flood waters from the Little Kanawha River for several decades.

Gov. Joe Manchin awarded more than $1.8 million in Disaster Recovery Initiative grants to assist local governments with flood mitigation efforts.
