While others have helped, yesterday afternoon Rick Sampson, Jason Nettles, Larry Morton, Leonard Powell, Larry McCallister and Richard Kirby, erected the frame of a large shelter near the snack bar at Wayne Underwood Field.

Tin and other finishing touches are yet to be done.

The shelter is the second to be constructed on the field this summer, a project using grant money obtained by the Calhoun Commission.

Dozens of residents are using the new walking trail daily. The trail, which circles the athletic field, was recently completed.

Several athletic groups have made improvements over the past two or three years.

The commission, using grant money, completed upgrades to the water, electric and sewer service, and the Youth Football League just made improvements that will help the rest rooms.

The commission will continue to support improvements to the field, which is now being managed by the Calhoun County Wood Festival committee.

Commissioner Rick Sampson expressed his thanks to all the volunteers who have helped with the field this summer.
