Harry J. Cook, 90 - Left Hand

Harry J. Cook, 90, of Left Hand, died Thursday, October 13, 2005, at the home of his niece and her husband, Pam and Lloyd Jett of Amma, after a long illness.

He was born July 15, 1925, at Glenville, Gilmer County, a son of the late George Washington and Maggie Mae Runnion Cook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie H. Cook; two sisters, Mabel Simmons and Flora Moore; two brothers, Harvey Cook and Harley Glen Cook.

Mr. Cook was a retired bus driver for the Roane County Board of Education and a farmer.

Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Hubert and Ruth Cook of Amma; sister-in-law, Arlene Cook of Douglas, GA; seven nieces, Brenda White, Pam Jett, Linda Kay Wolford, Kathy Carr, Jennifer Crowley all of Amma, Nancy Cook of Virginia and Rosemary Strickland of Douglas, GA; step daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and John Costello of Florida; step son and daughter-in-law, Earlie and Merle King of Ohio; four step grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the Roane General Hospital staff, Roane County EMS and Dr. Carroll Christiansen for all their care and consideration during Harry’s illness.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Garry L. Bowen officiating. Burial will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday.
