TOMMY WILLIAM NEWELL - Grantsville

Tommy William Newell, 80, of Grantsville, WV, died Monday, June 18th. in Louis A. Johnson Veteran's Medical Center, Clarksburg.

Born at Burnsville, Braxton County, he was a son of the late Cella and Iva Settles Newell. He was a US Army Veteran of WW II, he served in the Air Mail Photo Division of the Pentagon, Washington, DC. He was a former Chief of Police in Spencer, WV and was a former carpenter. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Grantsville.

Surviving are his wife, Clara Belle Newell, a son, James Newell of Grantsville, a brother, Jack Newell of Clarksburg and four sisters, Penny, Mary, Doris and Faye, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, two brothers and a sister.

Graveside services will be held Friday, June 22 at 2 p.m. at the Sand Ridge Cemetery, Sand Ridge, WV. Reverend Cleston Garrett will officiate. Military Graveside Rites will be provided by the Roane County American Legion Post # 21. Friends may call at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Friday.
