ROANE HIGH STUDENT DEAD FOLLOWING HEAD-ON COLLISION

A Roane County high student is dead and another injured following a a head-on collision yesterday evening near Speed, five miles south of Spencer on US 119.

The dead teen has been identified as BJ Heading, a passenger in one of the vehicles, according to WVRC Radio in Spencer.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. when a car driven by teenager Katlyn Conley was headed south with her friends, Brandon Chandler and BJ Heading.

The Conley vehicle reportedly went out-of-control, began fish tailing on the wet highway, narrowly missing two vehicles, before it slammed head-on with a 2001 Olds Bravado driven by Michael Hershman.

Heading was ejected from the vehicle and later died from those injuries.

Conley is in ICU at Charleston Area Medical Center with multiple injuries and Chandler is in fair condition at Charleston General Hospital.

Michael Hershman was only slightly injured and required no transport.

The Roane County Sheriff's Department is investigating.

Heading's death is the second fatality of a Roane County High School Student within the last year.
