EVANS WILL PORTRAY HARRIET TUBMAN - Freeing Slaves Through Underground Railroad

(09/24/2005)
Ilene Evans from Voices from the Hills will be at Calhoun Middle-High School next Thursday, September 29th at 4:30 p.m. for a presentation of "General Moses: Stories from the Life of Harriet Tubman."

Tubman was born into slavery in Maryland but escaped through the Underground Railroad in 1849.

She then became the most famous leader of that network, aiding slaves in their escape to free states and Canada.

She was known as "Moses" to the hundreds of slaves she helped to freedom and the thousands of others she inspired.

She was never caught and never lost a person on the route to freedom.

The presentation is sponsored by the Heads Up program and is open to all students and their parents.

A bus will be available from Arnoldsburg School and Pleasant Hill School to the Middle-High School and students can ride the activity buses home after the performance.

Questions, call Jean Simers, Heads Up Coordinator, 354-7595.
