CMS VOLLEYBALL TEAMS DEFEATED AT SPENCER

Calhoun Middle School Volleyball team was defeated Thursday evening in their opening match with defending conference champion Spencer Middle School.

In games that felt closer than their final scores, the girls played hard with the scores being tied several times before Spencer pulled away.

In the opening game, the B team jumped out to an early lead before losing 25-19. In the second game for B team, Spencer put together two long scoring runs and Calhoun was never able to recover losing 25-6.

In the opening contest for A team, the lead went back and forth. With Calhoun leading 13-12, a Spencer time-out provided the momentum swing the visitors needed.

Following the break, Spencer pulled away to win 25-14.

In the second game of the night, the lead again changed several times until Spencer pulled away 18 -12. This time however Calhoun was the team to battle back. The lady Red Devils pulled to within three before losing 25-21.

Scoring for Calhoun B team were: Rochelle Gerwig 7 points with 2 aces, Karissa Reip 1 point, and Kayla Cottrell 1 point, Scoring for Calhoun A were: Ashley Houchin 7 points with 4 aces, Bridget Carter 6 points with 1 ace, Kayla Roberts 4 points, Amber Wilford 2 points, and Michelle Hall 1 point.

The CMS Volleyball team will travel to Wirt County Monday night and Clay County on Tuesday night before hosting Braxton County on Thursday night.
