The Calhoun Middle School Football team ran its record to 2-0 with a 30-6 shellacking of the Spencer Middle School Yellow Jackets at Red Devil Stadium on Thursday night.

Zach Moore with 136 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and Brandon Reed with 109 yards and two touchdowns lead the potent Red Devil attack.

The Red Devils were unable to muster any offense in the 1st Quarter, running only three offensive plays before fumbling the ball away at the Spencer 29 yard line. The Red Devil defense would stymie the Yellow Jackets and force a punt, but the Jacket kick was muffed by the Red Devils and recovered by Spencer inside Calhoun territory at the 34 yard line. The 1st Quarter ended with neither team getting on the scoreboard.

Regaining possession on downs on the 1st play of the 2nd Quarter, the fumble bugaboo would again bite Calhoun on its 4th offensive play turning over the football at its own 37 yard line. The Yellow Jackets then drove to the Calhoun 14 yard line, but lost the ball on downs. On the 1st play from scrimmage, Zach Moore rambled around the right side and outran the Jacket secondary for an 86 yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was good on a pass from Moore to Aaron Yoak, and the Red Devils lead 8-0.

Calhoun attempted an unsuccessful onside kick, but the 1st Half ran out with no further scoring.

The 2nd Half opened with Calhoun receiving the kickoff at the Red Devil 28 yard line. The Red Devils moved the ball on the ground to the Yellow Jacket 15 yard line, where Brandon Reed scrambled into the end zone over the left side of the line at the 5:18 mark of the 3rd Quarter for a 14-0 lead. The conversion failed.

After the Red Devil kickoff, Spencer began its possession at its own 35 yard line. The Yellow Jackets maintained control of the ball on the ground for the rest of the 3rd Quarter driving to the Red Devils' three yard line as the quarter ended with Calhoun leading 14-0.

On the 2nd play of the 4th Quarter on 4th down, the Red Devils would surrender their first touchdown of the year. The extra point attempt was no good, and the score stood at Calhoun 14, Spencer 6.

After returning the kickoff to the Red Devil 45 yard line, Brandon Reed carried three times, the last from 38 yards out, scampering around the left side for another Calhoun score at the 6:19 mark of the 4th Quarter. The conversion was good on a pass, Moore to Jacob Haught, and the Red Devil lead was 22-6.

Spencer began its next possession after the kickoff at its own 42 yard line, and marched the ball on the ground to the Red Devil 31 yard line. On a 3rd and five at the 31 yard line, Calhoun defensive end Jacob Haught wrestled the ball away from the Yellow Jacket ball carrier and returned it 61 yards to the Jacket eight yard line. After a five yard penalty moved the ball back to the 13, quarterback Zach Moore scrambled to pay dirt on the next play.

Randy Fluharty's run for the conversion was good and Calhoun led 30-6 with 2:45 left in the game. No further scoring occurred and the game ended, Calhoun 30- Spencer 6.

Calhoun is at home next Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. entertaining Gilmer County Middle School at Red Devil Stadium.
