CALHOUN WOMAN PLEADS IN DUI WITH INJURY

(10/22/2005)
A Mt. Zion woman, who State Police said was under the influence of drugs when she collided with another vehicle, has pled no-contest in Magistrate's court in Spencer.

Ryka Mangus, 19, was charged following a two-car accident on April 19 that left five people injured on US 33-119, east of Spencer at the intersection of Slate Road and US 33-119.

Mangus was fined $200 and placed on home confinement for ten days starting November 1 for a DUI with injury and possession of a conrolled substance less than 15 grams.

Four other charges for DUI with injury, failure to maintain control and driving left of center, were dropped.

Trooper Fred Hammack said Mangus was under the influence of Diazepam, Nordiazepam and marijuana, according to a WVSP analysis.

Hammack said the Mangus vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with Kara Riddle, also of Calhoun. The officer discovered drug paraphanelia in the Mangus vehicle, and that passengers in the car admitted to him they had been smoking pot.

All the subjects were transported to Roane General Hospital and Riddle was life-flighted to CAMC for trauma treatment.
