BUCKY ARTHUR DECLARED INCOMPETENT - Entered Police Barracks Armed

(08/17/2005)
Bucky Dale Arthur, 49, of Annamoriah has been declared incompetent to stand trial for allegedly going to the West Virginia State Police Detachment in Wood County armed with guns.

Arthur has been charged with attempted murder and wanton endangerment, entering the barracks on Rt. 47 in Wood County, encountering officers.

Charleston Psychiatric Group did the competency evaluation.

He is being committed to William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital in Weston.

William Kiger, Arthur's attorney, said he requested the competency examination after speaking with Arthur and Arthur's mother, sister and employer.

"He is not criminally responsible for what he did," Kiger said.

Arthur can be kept at Sharpe Hospital for six months, after which he will be re-evaluated.

He is currently at North Central Regional Jail, waiting to be taken to Weston.

Arthur entered the state police barracks just after noon on June 5, saying that unknown individuals should be arrested for treason. He was reportedly wearing Ruger Redhawk 45s in what was described as western holsters.

When officers arrived at the barracks he was asked to remove the guns. He refused.

Arthur had several other weapons in his car, officers said.

When troopers attempted to disarm Arthur, according to reports, he allegedly tried to pull one of the pistols.
