GODFREY ARRESTED FOR DRAGGING DOG DOWN STREET

(08/04/2005)
A Main Street Grantsville man was arrested for cruelty to animals, after police chief Ron Gordon and other residents witnessed the man dragging his dog down the street with a rope, the dog was unable to stand up and was overheated.

Peter Godfrey was arrested for abusing the dog.

"It is a miracle the dog survived," said Gordon. "It was really bad."

Authorities previously had problems over care Godfrey was giving his animals.

Gordon said the incident with dragging the prostrate dog appeared to be precipitated by anger after he was issued citations.

The man had been called to the Foodland parking lot to retrieve his pets.
