PRINCIPAL STINN HIRED FOR COUNTY ED POSITION

(08/03/2005)
The principal of Pleasant Hill Elementary School has been hired to become the county's Director of Federal Programs, a position that was opened following Jane Lynch's resignation.

Jeremy Kirk was hired as the music teacher at Calhoun Middle School.

Elementary teacher Edna Robinson submitted a retirement letter, saying "I tried my best to not only teach the curriculum, but to also help the children develop the qualities necessary for them to become responsible citizens."

A number of teachers were hired to fill vacancies at Monday evening's Calhoun Board of Ed meeting. Superintendent Ron Blankenship said only one teacher is left to be called back from the RIF (Reduction in Force), mostly linked to personnel leaving the area or retiring.

The soft drink contract for the school was awarded to Pepsi, after Coke had maintained the service for seven years.

The school board continues a policy to approve individual requests for early release from school. Monday evening, the board approved three early releases requesting permission to take college courses. Approved, Hannah Conley, Ivan Cunningham and Cassandra Westfall.

Others employed by the board, Linda Shock, math CMHS; Jamie Wagoner, itinerant education teacher CMHS; Vickie Hardway and Jan Whited, CSRP elementary teachers; Jim Morgan, elementary teacher Pleasant Hill; Seana Miller, itinerant special education teacher CMHS; Amber Ganoe and Allison Mace, substitute teachers; Kathryn Nichols, Heads Up math tutor/lead teacher Arnoldsburg; Janice Westfall, Heads Up math tutor/lead teacher Arnoldsburg; Kelli Whytsell, Heads Up reading tutor/lead teacher Pleasant Hill.

The next board meeting is scheduled for August 15.
