NICHOLS CRITICAL FROM BURNS IN WALTON FIRE - Victims Transfered To Burn Centers

(07/08/2005)
At least two Walton residents were seriously injured Wednesday evening in a house fire that was reportedly caused by a gas explosion.

HealthNet took one woman and a two-year-old child to Charleston Area Medical Center. They were later transfered to burn centers.

The adult burn victim was identified as Martha Nichols, who reportedly went back into the house, or made efforts to get the child.

Nichols is reportedly in critical condition in University Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio, suffering from burns over 80% of her body.

The two-year-old boy, also seriously burned, is in the Shriner's Hospital, also in Cincinnati.

He has been identified as Aaron Hartley.

The two-story structure was located a couple doors from the Walton Community Center.

Several Roane County Fire Departments responded to the scene about 5 p.m.

Community residents have asked that Ms. Nichols and the child "be held in prayer," the situation being serious.
