WIRT COUNTY CUB SCOUTS GRADUATE - Ceremony At Camp Barbe |

Article and photos courtesy of John Griffin Wirt County Cub Scout Pack 30 held their Cub Scout Graduation meeting Saturday afternoon at Camp Barbe. Several youngsters and their parents, friends, and relatives gathered under the shelter to participate in and watch the activities. After dining on hot dogs grilled outside (the homemade sauce was incredibly delicious!), Cub master Keith Smith started things off with some Arrow Point presentations, and then several Cubs advanced in rank. The Bear Den admirably retired an American Flag in a very solemn and sacred ceremony that is seldom seen today. Holly Parsons, a local Vietnam Veteran who was invited to the occasion, said "I've never seen it done like this before." An "Honor Guard" of Scouts held their salutes as the Webelos Den took the well worn Flag apart slowly and carefully, then lowering each piece (Stripes first) into the flames as a Den Mother narrated the time-honored ceremony.
