GILMER MAN VICTIM OF FALSE IDENTITY - Wrongfully Listed, Wrongfully Indicted

(06/07/2005)
A case of mistaken identity that has gone on for a year could be over after Calhoun Prosecutor Matt Minney moved yesterday to have an indictment dropped against Gilmer County resident Roger Lee Minigh.

Braxton County State Police wrongly went with Roger Lee Minigh's name after a suspect, Danny Minigh, allegedly used the Gilmer County pipefitter's name last July.

Unfortunately, State Police have apparently been unable to clear up the mistaken identity issue since last July, although they were notified of the problem when the arrest occurred.

Danny Minigh, the real suspect, was reportedly involved in a meth lab case where several individuals were arrested in Burnsville last July.

The meth lab, according to court records, was stored on Hog Knob Hill near Grantsville.

Roger Lee Minigh complained when his name appeared on the Central Regional Jail web site, hiring an attorney to clear his name in Braxton County.

The wrongful identification issue was brought to the attention of Sgt. John Bonazzo in Braxton County at the time of the incident.

Still, Roger Lee Minigh was indicted by a Calhoun Grand Jury a few weeks ago, and his name was still on a court docket yesterday for arraignment before Judge David Nibert.

Prosecutor Minney, who has been attempting to solve the problem, says he is hopeful the mistaken identity issue has come to an end.

Danny Minigh, the real suspect, could now be presented for indictment before a Calhoun Grand Jury. He is facing charges in Braxton County.
