A woman now facing charges for murdering her husband has seen a big change in her luck since earlier this year when she won over $300,000.

Kimberly Hanna, 34, will be charged in the murder of her husband, Randall Hanna, 50, Roane Sheriff Todd Cole said.

The couple lived on Walton Ridge but they were working Sunday in the Grannies Creek area, near Newton. They were collecting old building materials at a site where Randall Hanna once lived when he was married to a former wife, Cole said. A home at the site had burned a few years ago.

Around 5:30 p.m. Sunday neighbors reported hearing a gunshot, followed by yelling and screaming, which was followed by another gunshot.

"There was a shooting and she fled the scene," said the sheriff.

Randall Hanna's body was found beneath a piece of tin. He had been shot twice with a shotgun, Cole said. The shooting allegedly stemmed from an argument.

Cole said the couple had been working for over an hour when the incident occurred. The property where the body was found was located about 1.5 miles from Big Sandy Road, Cole said.

As they tried to locate Kimberly Hanna for questioning, police obtained a search warrant for the couple's home near Walton and discovered a newspaper article from New Mexico that told of her good fortune.

In February she won $70,000 on a scratch-off lottery ticket in New Mexico. Not long after that she hit a $233,000 jackpot on a casino slot machine.
