(05/31/2005)
Calhoun's 43rd annual Wood Festival will kick-off tomorrow evening with a musical performance by well-known regional entertainer Mike Morningstar at 8:30 p.m.

The Lion's Club Bingo game is already operating, and the carnival will be opening. Returning this year are those famous Band Booster hot dogs.

The show will feature other pop and rock performers, commencing at 5 p.m. on center stage in front of the courthouse.

The big entertainment event for the festival is the appearance of Confederate Railroad at the county park Saturday night, followed by fireworks. County music artist Adam Tucker will also be appearing.

Besides the traditional carnival, there is live entertainment every evening on center stage in Grantsville, featuring gospel music, karaoke, teen musicians and local bands.

Look for some exciting new events, including rock climbing, mechanical bull riding, ATV and truck mud bogs.

The Grand Parade is afternoon Saturday, followed by the traditional street performance of Heartwood in the Hills. "Kid's Day" events are scheduled for Saturday morning, including the Mark Wood Fun Show.

Lots of food vendors, a watermelon eating contest, craft booths, a quilt show and Saturday morning sausage and biscuits breakfast (8-12) and spaghetti lunch and dinner (1-5) at the Senior Center.

The CCCOA Senior center will be open on Friday evening from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., offering their restroom facilities and a cool place to sit, according to Brenda McBride.

The Dining Room will hold the Quilt Displays and the food sales on Saturday.

The Calhoun Middle School Boosters will be selling gravy and biscuits at their booth starting Tuesday morning. Boosters will also be selling Calhoun T Shirts and other concessions.

There will be a shuttle bus running from a location in town to the Mud Bogs and the Confederate Railroad Concert. Look for the shuttle bus stop sign located in town. The bus is compliments of the Calhoun County Committee On Aging.
