COTTRELL PROPOSES COMMUNITY "TAKEOVER" OF MINNORA CENTER - New Officers And Board After Six Months

(06/01/2001)
A Minnora Community Center board member Larry Cottrell, is calling for a community committee to take over the daily operation of the organization for six months, after which there would be a new election of officers and people to fill the l0-person board.

Cottrell is in disagreement with President Wanda Richards and her groups management of the facility. He says four other board members agree with his proposal, Donna Jordan, Juanita Boggs, Hershel Yost and Phillip Stevens.

Richards has maintained her management and hard work has moved the center forward, and Cottrell and his followers have done little but cause problems. Cottrell has called for Richards to resign.

Cottrell is proposing a five-person committee from the community take over the daily operation of the center for six months, review the by-laws, arrange for an audit and more clearly define responsibilities. He believes his proposal would "Save the center for the community."

Cottrell says the center "should be run for and by a broad representation of all our community."

In a letter to the editor, he is suggesting representatives for the reorganization could come from Upper West Fork Park, Upper West Fork VFD, Minnora Church, Walnut Church, Walker Church, West Fork Community Center (Arnoldsburg) or the Arnoldsburg VFD.

Cottrell says he is disappointed the way the board has been structured. "Until recently, Ms. Richard's five votes of support on the board came from herself, her husband, her husband's first cousin and her best friend. Two weeks ago she voted her daughter to be treasurer and her husbands brother and wife to be board members."
