The Calhoun Commission is applying again for a Small Cities Block Grant in the amount of $393,000 for an elevator for the Calhoun courthouse.

The commission is also exploring possibilities to obtaining funding for camping sites at the Calhoun County Park.

A number of grants were processed for county fire departments, the Upper West Fork and Arnoldsburg parks. The county has received an $800 grant from RC & D for materials to build a shelter at Wayne Underwood Field.

The commission has been advising all public agencies who receive pass-down funds through the commission, they must submit an audit, required by the State Tax Department.

Taking a recommendation of the 911 Advisory Board, the commission appointed Dave Johnson as the new 911 Director.

The commission reviewed items in preparation for the June 25th election. County Clerk Richard Kirby said absentee voting for the special issue commences Friday. Training for poll workers is scheduled for May 19. No excuse voting will be available for the election, Kirby said.

Diane Ludwig with the Little Kanawha Development Corp. asked for and received a resolution in support of a proposed Micro-loan program.

County road 20/9 was designated "Red Bud Road."

Jim Fealy appeared before the commission seeking support for a current effort to put the Little Kanawha Parkway on the map as a proposed road project.

Fealy reviewed the history of efforts to have the connector highway built, including efforts to place the project on the state's priority list.

The commission passed a new resolution in support of the project.
