Calhoun's second highway fatality of the year is a 15-year-old Millstone youth.

Randy Brannon, a Calhoun High School student, died shortly after a truck in which he was riding struck a tree on rural Sycamore Road, one-tenth mile from State Route 16. The accident happened abut 4 p.m. Thursday.

Emergency personnel performed CPR on Brannon, in an attempt to revive him.

Brannon is the son of Carl and Judy Brannon of Millstone, who have been associated with emergency services in the county for several years.

The driver of the truck, Jonathan Roberts, 14, of Millstone, was life-flighted to Charleston Area Medical Center by HealthNet chopper. Family sources said he is in ICU, suffering from "some spleen and liver damage," although his condition was not described as critical, he reportedly does have serious injuries.

The accident was reported by a Calhoun school bus driver.

Calhoun EMS dispatched two ambulances to the scene, with the Arnoldsburg VFD responding.

Trooper 1st Class Jeff Hunt and Chief Deputy Ron Bandy are investigating.

Brannon's body is at Stump Funeral Home where arrangements will be completed.
