Wm. Paul Lee passed away after a long bout with cancer. The last of his immediate family, he was laid to rest in the Rector cemetery near Burning Springs.

Hazel Brinkley passed away in Marmet. She was a daughter of J. Alex & Lula Douglass dePue and was a sister of the late June Marie Sheppard and Glen dePue, Sr. Although she lived in southern W. Va. she enjoyed visits to Creston and kept abreast of local events. She had attended the old school that Godfrey L. Cabot maintained on the "dePue side" of the river.

Rev. Gladson Grim is doing well after having a leg amputated at the Camden-Clark Hospital. He likes to have company.

C. Glen Arthur is a patient in the Minnie Hamilton Health Care facility in Grantsville. He has not been well for some time.

Keith Schrader suffered a stroke but is said to be getting along well and may have a complete recovery.

Missy Whipkey lost control of her vehicle after coming down the Leason hill Friday afternoon and veered off the road on the Creston Flats and hit a tree after going through a field. She was life flighted to a Charleston hospital. She is reported to be suffering from a broken ankle, a crushed chest, a broken neck vertebra, etc. Gary Buchanan came along and noticed tracks leading away from the road and found her.

Jackie Sue Boggs and Josh Blair were married Saturday. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jack Boggs and he is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Tim Blair of Annamoriah.

The local area was starting to get dry but rainy weather returned and Sunday morning and evening both there was even snow. The forecast has been for a cool dry spring and a hot dry summer. A large agribusiness concern paid a significant sum to get this prediction, so jot it down and see how it comes out.

Rev. Juanita Lockhart filled her regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church. Also with her and Steve were Mr. & Mrs. Gary Carter of the Gideon Society.

The FunChester group held a surprise birthday party for Jessica Potter at Keith Collins new home. They also attended a school production of Annie which was directed by the teacher, Jessica Potter.

The younger set at little Hope Starcher's birthday party were upset because Hope had come down with a high temperature and was rushed to the Minnie Hamilton Health Care center in Grantsville. The partygoers waited and Hope finally arrived to a fun party with lots of gifts, cake, ice cream, etc. Those attending included Judy Starcher, Charles & Melissa Hackney & girls, Daniel & Jesse Barr, Debbie Parsons, Fred & Betty Bish, Alvin & Nancy Engelke, Scott, Crystal, Jonathon & Janna Hudkins, Kaleb Bell, Suellen Butcher, Angie Parsons, Seirra and Maggie Dooley, Bessie Arthur, Jeanetta and Clarissa Harper, Gary Harper III, Bob & Cynthia Lowe, Logan Lowe and the honoree.

Jane Engelke, owner of Elizabeth Michaels and Danielle Burns are part of WTAP's Dream Wedding promotion. Jane is donating the wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses while the WTAP audience votes on which dress the bride will wear. Cameras were rolling at the shop last week filming the bride in her potential gowns. Those who have access can watch for the girls on TV this week.

The price of local Penn grade crude oil rose Saturday to $52/bbl. In addition to the additional demand from Hindustan and Cathay, the price is also impacted by the activities of the Arab terrorists and other sleaze.

Columbia Natural Resources recently acquired a lease on the West Fork not far from Creston. Some have been reluctant to deal with them as they have been calculating their royalties so that payments are about 1/3rd of what is really due. As an example wet gas for February was only worth (for royalty purposes) $4.08/MCF [not BTU or dekatherms]. Calhoun County gas was worth $6.4974/dekatherm. Of course when one complains one is always reminded that, . . . "well, you know we have a lot of expense, the Rockefeller children need shoes . . . "

A Creston News reader in Porkopolis, sometimes called the capitol of Ken-Tucky was upset over what was written about the killing of Terry Schiavo and relating it to those who make lots of noise about trying to fix the social security mess. Of course those who make the most noise in objection do not and never plan to have to live on a government check - they or generations before them made investments that provide for them so that they can live in style. Some others who make lots of noise have government funded pensions like the Little Fiddler whose pension is worth about $7 million or so. Of course that plan is not to be allowed by the elite to be available to ordinary workers who have more political value if they and their families are kept both poor and uneducated. The New York Slimes still brags about their Pulitzer Prize for their man who hid the slaughter by Uncle Joe Stalin of millions in the Ukraine and no one knows how many were "eliminated" in China. One might wonder why so many politicos are interested in "The Hemlock Society" (which has now been renamed). Before one swallows the talking points hook, line and sinker one should read (or re-read) Animal Farm, 1984, and other works of George Orwell and, perhaps, Machiavelli. For certain if the culture of death catches on more [becomes more tolerated and acceptable] it will not be long before a government commission will rule on how long non-producing [or tax generating] citizens may live. In China forced abortions after one child is now the law. No wonder the leaders there hate the Pope. As I said earlier, then there will be no need for social security reform, as number of recipients will drop drastically. In Animal Farm the old horse who couldn't work was sent off by the pigs to the glue factory. To quote one icon of the elite, George Bernard Shaw, "Better dead, better dead."

Some folks from Ohio said they had purchased the old Hunter Pell place and they had met with contractors to commence work. One might guess that they did not consult the flood plain map.

Eddie Cain was calling in the Creston area over the weekend.
