The Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center Skills USA club sent ten members to the James Ramsey Technical Institute for the annual West Virginia Skills USA competitions April 7-9.

There were over 30 different contests taking place during the two-day event.

Randy Hitt (pictured left), a post secondary student in the Building Construction program received a Gold Medal for placing first in the carpentry competition.

Instructor Julius Singleton says Randy is considered a leader in the class. As a 1st place winner he will be accompanying the rest of the state's 1st place winners to Kansas City for the National Skills USA competition in June.

The Leadership Team, consisting of Kenny Raulston, Clinton Spencer, Roxanne Cann, Stacey Smith, Titus Robinson, Mike Roberts and Tim Swiger, each received a Bronze Medal for placing third in the Opening and Closing ceremony competition. According to the Leadership Team advisors, Mary Hammack and Zane Gherke, these students worked very hard in preparing for this contest.
