POSTELWAIT REFUSES TO RESIGN PSD POST - Clay Commission Suspends Her

(04/19/2005)
Clay-Roane PSD Director Melissa Postelwait has refused to resign from her position, after being charged with battery at last weeks meeting where she was accused of advancing herself money from a PSD account.

The Clay Commission apparently wanted her resignation during a meeting they held yesterday. Postalwait and PSD attorney Tom Whitter appeared at the Clay courthouse.

The commission appeared upset over Postelwait's conduct and her management of the PSD, including alleged misappropriation of funds.

Officially, the commission suspended Postelwait from her position without pay and decided to oversee the operations of the water company themselves, at least for the time being.

The Clay sheriff reportedly took Postelwait's keys to the PSD building.

Postalwait said, "I can tell you this, my keys are still in my possession and I will not resign with so many false accusations being thrown out there."

As for the alleged suspension, she said "Officially I am not suspended. They can and will get an emergency injunction through the Circuit Court, but it is temporary and we will still have to go to Circuit Court."

Three PSD board members have reportedly resigned, leaving two, including Roane County resident Susan Beard who was allegedly struck by Postelwait.

Beard is appointed by the Roane County Commission.
