SPENCER HEAD-ON CRASH SENDS SIX CALHOUN RESIDENTS TO HOSPITAL - Riddle Life-Flighted To CAMC

(04/13/2005)
A two-vehicle head-on collision on US 33-119 near Spencer yesterday afternoon reportedly injured six Calhoun residents.

Kara Riddle, 23, reportedly a driver of one of the vehicles which was heading west, was life-flighted to Charleston Area Medical Center, for treatment of what was described as a compound fracture of her leg. Sources said she underwent surgery during the night for the injury.

An unconfirmed report said the driver of the other vehicle was Ryka Mangus, 18, accompanied by Josh Davis and another passenger. Reports on their condition are unavailable, but Davis was reportedly released from the hospital.

Sources said the Mangus car swerved to miss the back of a car turning into Slate Road east of Bower's Hill and crashed head-on with the Riddle vehicle.

The Riddle car was occupied by Riddle's sister Brittany and a friend identified as Jessica Harris.

Brittany Riddle, Jessica Harris and Josh Davis have reportedly been released from the hospital.

Both vehicles were total losses. The Roane County Emergency Squad responded with four ambulances and the Spencer VFD responded to the scene, an area frequently known for auto crashes.

Also responding was the Clover VFD.

Traffic was blocked on US 33-119 for about one hour.
