13-YEAR-OLDS CONSPIRE TO BLOW-UP TYLER SCHOOL

(04/07/2005)
Two 13-year-old boys from Tyler County have been charged with conspiring to blow up Tyler Consolidated Middle School.

The boys have been charged with conspiracy of a criminal use of an explosive material.

Tyler County Prosecutor Dean Rohrig says one was ALSO charged with possession of knives on school premises.

Rohrig says the boys did not bring explosives with them to school but planned to use materials already there, such as chemicals from the chemistry lab.

State Police say other students overheard the boys discussing their plans yesterday and reported what they heard to the principal and a Tyler County sheriff's deputy stationed at the school.

The school is located in Middlebourne and is connected to Tyler Consolidated High School. About 900 students and teachers were evacuated for about an hour-and-a-half yesterday while the building was searched.

Both have been suspended and it is likely they will be expelled.
