"THE CROWDS CAME BEFORE HIM" - Palm Sunday Parade Marks Beginning Of Holy Week

(03/21/2005)

The crowds came before Him and followed Him through Grantsville yesterday, as they did in Jerusalem those many years ago, saying "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" (Matthew 21:7-9)

MHHCC Chaplain's Association sponsored the re-enactment, a Palm Sunday Parade to remember Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem and the beginning of Holy Week.

The story says they brought their donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut Palm branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

Members of several county churches came for yesterday's event, which took the worshipers down High Street and out Main Street from the First Baptist Church to Knotts Memorial UM Church.

Palm Sunday signals the upcoming end of Lent and the beginning of Holy Week. The day commemorates the spreading of palms and clothing in Jesus' path as He entered Jerusalem prior to His crucifixion.

An opening prayer was given at the Baptist Church and a worship service concluded the event at Knott's Memorial.
