Douglas R. Carper, 52, of Chloe, Calhoun County, West Virginia, died Friday, March 11, 2005, in the H.J. Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after an extended illness.

He was born November 1, 1952 at Spencer, a son of Gladys M. Smith Carper of Left Hand and the late Ross V. Carper.

Doug was a welder and a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union, Local 625, Charleston. He attended the Minnora United Methodist Church, Minnora. Also, he was a member of the Linden Lodge No. 83, A.F. & A.M. and the Linden Chapter No. 152, Order of the Eastern Star, Linden.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Cathy L. Truman Carper of Chloe; daughter, Juliet D. Walker of Amma; son, Steven Douglas Carper of Chloe; three grandchildren, Cara Grace "Gracie" and Adam Cole "John Henry" Walker of Amma, Dakota Douglas Carper of Statesville, NC; brothers, Michael Carper of Ripley, Jeffrey Carper of Spencer, Timothy Carper of Left Hand; sister, Sharon White of Parkersburg; half brother, Roy Parfitt of Gig Harbor, WA; nephew, Chuck Hicks of Big Bend; several other nephews and nieces.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m. in the Minnora United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tim Hickman and the Rev. Jason Poling officiating. Burial, with Masonic graveside rites, will be in the Minnora Cemetery.

Friends may call at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday and at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
