Robert Bonar was named Teacher of the Year at the annual Employee Recognition Banquet
held Friday at Calhoun Middle/High School. Bonar, a former principal of Calhoun High School
for 18 years, was named from a field of four nominees. He teaches high school history and
currently is teaching a college entry history course for Glenville State College at Calhoun
High.
The award was presented by school board president Rick Fitzwater, who recognized the
other outstanding teachers who were nominated. They were Judy Prusack, Kim Batten and
Judy Kerns.
The Service Employee of the Year went to county office Executive Secretary, Joy Starcher.
School Board member Carlene Frederick presented the award to Starcher, who has worked
in several different capacities for 26 years, currently working for Donnie Pitts, supervisor of
support services. "I work with a great group of people and wear many hats," Starcher said.
Other service employees nominated, Loy Badgett, Patty Mitchell and Barbara Tingler.
Retirement presentations were given. Donnie Pitts recognized Don Harris, Jane Lynch
recognized Twila Miller, Greg Cartwright recognized Sue Ann Nichols and Larry Stinn
recognized Carol Sue Stump.
Perfect attendance awards went to Pat Bell, Bob Bonar, Bruce Jett, Billy Queen, Nola
Smith, Dewayne Yatauro and Harold Fulks. They were presented by Connie Roberts and
Ralph Cunningham.
Superintendent Ron Blankenship and board member Carlene Frederick recognized the
Superintendent's Advisory Council, Beth Alltop, Loy Badgett, Randy Ball, Bob Bonar, Cheryl
Fiedorczyk, Deb Goff, Starling Holbert, Dotti Nemitz, Kathy Nichols, James Pierce and Joy
Starcher.
