SCHOOL BOARD REVIEWS GOALS - Search For After-School Band Director

The Calhoun Board of Education reviewed the board's goals for the year during their January meeting.

Greg Cartwright discussed the Strategic Planning Process, Ron Blankenship reported on the WVASA legislative committee, Carlene Frederick reported on the RESA meeting and Don Harris gave a report on the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center.

The Board posted jobs for an after-school band director and a mentor for physical education teacher at Pleasant Hill.

Hired were Becky Miller, mentor for physical education teacher at Pleasant Hill and Lijiah Heiney as a substitute teacher.

Volunteer agreements were approved for Marcus Davis, CMHS; Mike Fitzwater, CMHS; and Ryan Fitzwater, CMHS.

Other actions: home school request for Nathan Rush (grade 4) Ora Rush; out-of-state conference request, Renita Benson, Linda Edwards and Tammy Webb, International reading Conference, San Antonio, Texas; a draft for a medication administration policy; transfer request, Andrew Woodring, Calhoun to Roane.

Board approved monthly bills.

There was a discussion regarding problems with student behavior at basketball games or other athletic events.

The next meeting is scheduled for February 21 at Mt. Zion.

All board members were present, Cynthia Dale, Richard Fitzwater, Carlene Frederick, Donald Harris and Joy Starcher, with secretary Ron Blankenship.
