FRENCH CREEK FREDDIE SEES HIS SHADOW

(02/03/2005)
While thousands came out for the early morning arrival of Punxsutawney Phil, which is full of official pomp, ritual and entertainment, only thirty souls showed up yesterday morning to check on French Creek Freddie.

Freddie has been having his day in the sun or shadow since 1978.

French Creek Freddie did see his shadow, which according to legend, means there will be six more weeks of winter.

In Ohio they have another not-so-famous groundhog - Buckeye Chuck.

Freddie's handlers at the West Virginia Wildlife Center say he was very cooperative. They say he obviously liked Wednesday morning's sunshine.
